A recent report has suggested that having low vitamin D levels may increase a person's risk of developing Parkinson's disease in later life.

The report by Finnish researchers, and published in Archives of Neurology, found that Vitamin D may be part of the protection needed to prevent these cells being gradually lost which is what happens to people with the disease.

There is some uncertainty about how much Vitamin D is required to be healthy and whether this can be attained through the average diet alone and Parkinson's UK have called for further research into this exciting development.

For a species that, at one time, would have spent most of its time outdoors rather than in stuffy offices, living rooms and classrooms, this comes as no surprise to some.

Most of the country is in sunshine today, so we could do all ourselves a favour by just going out.
