Craniosacral therapy is a very positive therapy as it seeks not just to work with ailments and problems also to raise overall mental and physical well being of the individual by helping the body to heal and manage itself.
It was developed in the early twentieth century and is based on the relationship between tiny movements in the bones of the head and the body's own rhythms and health - it is interesting to note that these can be measured with scientific instruments. These movements are inextricably linked with mental and emotional health and restrictions in these movements can lead to impeding the body's own abilities to heal itself. Craniosacral therapy can help with a whole range of problems from back pain to depression.
A qualified and experienced therapist will put you at your ease and invite you to lie on a couch or sit, fully clothed while they make contact by placing their hands on your body, meanwhile listening and tuning in to what may be happening. This is always done in a gentle and reassuring way so that you are not distressed or unnerved. During the session you are likely to feel very relaxed and because of the nature of the therapy, the benefits may not be noticeable immediately but most people feel deeply moved, exhilarated and relaxed afterwards. The therapy involves the practitioner gently working mainly your spine and skull which can remove any restrictions on nerve passages or the movement of fluid through the spinal cord. It also helps to align bones into their proper position to bring about comfort and well being.
