Description

Christine specialises in the Bowen Technique, a gentle form of body work in which subtle moves are performed over soft tissue, sending messages deep into the brain, retrieving cellular memory of a healthy, relaxed and balanced being. Its unique feature is the periods of rest in between a sequence of moves; these period of rest are as important as the move itself, allowing time for the body to process the information and initiate change.

Spinal Touch complements the Bowen Technique. It is a powerful, unique and effective light touch technique, for assessing and treating postural distortion at the body's centre of gravity, located between the 5th lumbar vertebra and the base of the sacrum.

The flow of universal life energy of Reiki is often automatic, reinforcing the treatments and the healing process. Once on the road to recovery, there is a choice of treatments to help maintain a relaxed state of being.

A client receives a full consultation on the first visit and a review of progress is maintained throughout to achieve optimum progress.

Primary Services Explained:

The Bowen Technique

The Technique was developed by the late Tom Bowen in Geelong, Australia in the 1950’s who was interested in ways to alleviate human suffering. He began to notice that certain moves on the body had particular effects. He gradually refined his technique and his Geelong clinic became extremely busy with Tom performing about 13,000 treatments a year.

The Technique can provide relief for many types of injuries and other health problems, both acute and chronic, and it does so holistically, via the body’s innate healing mechanisms. The technique can help relieve; back pain, sciatica, frozen shoulder, neck restriction, whiplash injuries, carpal tunnel, RSI, headaches/migraines, stress/anxiety, ME, MS, hay fever/allergies/asthma, IBS/constipation, insomnia, digestive problems, fertility issues, oedema.

Bowen Technique is appropriate for people of all ages, in all degrees of health. Even though it is a physical therapy it seems to work on all levels; mentally, emotionally and sometimes on a physical level. People often report they feel more grounded, centred.

A typical session generally lasts from 15 to 45 minutes. Clients usually lie on a massage/bodywork table or bed, or may be seated in a chair if required, for comfort. A session involves one or more 'procedures', each of which consists of several sets of gentle 'moves’.

A typical Bowen Technique session initiates a cascade of beneficial changes for several days with clients often reporting improvements in seemingly unrelated problems that they may have forgotten to mention to the practitioner.

Three to five treatments at weekly intervals are usually enough to give long lasting relief, although further treatments may be required. New injuries usually respond quickly whilst long term problems can take longer and may need more treatments.

Spinal Touch

The sacrum/pelvis position and its relationship to the vertebral column are critical in enabling the body to function correctly in the Earth's environment of constant gravity.

Stress and strain on the normal functioning of this relationship sets up an imbalance that distorts the body's posture through muscle contraction. Left uncorrected, this places a strain on the skeletal system, which in turn causes the body to lose its shape. Though often subtle, organ positions are also disturbed and subject to extra strain.

Each system is dependent on every other system in the body organism to perform its function. When one part breaks down, it has an effect on the rest of the body systems, causing disruption to a greater or lesser extent.

The way to reverse this trend of increasing strain and distortion is to encourage the muscles to relax and rest. A relaxed muscle allows the body to return to its normal posture and a rested muscle allows the toxins that have accumulated to be released into the system for disposal. This release allows the body to repair itself.

All types of symptoms can be relieved even those given up by other methods of healing. Because it is so gentle there are no contraindications.

A typical session begins with the client standing on a specially designed footboard while their posture is assessed against a plumb-line. Clients then lie, face down, on a treatment couch for approximately 20 minutes. In this position, the practitioner applies a precise sequence of light pressure contacts over the back, shoulders, neck, head and abdomen to guide the body toward postural correction and induce a state of profound relaxation. While receiving a treatment, a client may experience a mild flow of warmth and energy change.

The number of treatments required will depend on a number of factors (such as the time with the condition) but there will be positive changes, as the body realigns itself and posture improves.
