I am a Core Process Psychotherapist currently working from The Attic Cellar in St Ives. After a recent bout of advertising I became aware of the difficulties facing potential clients who are living in rural communities; no car, lack of public transport, and the need to rely upon other people in order to get from A to B.

There are many reasons why people find it difficult to seek support not just the lack of available transport but sometimes because they have a disability or unable to travel any distance.  This gave me the idea to take Core Process psychotherapy on the road in the form of The Metta Bus.

The word Metta means Loving kindness which seemed an appropriate title for a traveling psychotherapist plus I came across a wonderful article when I typed it into the search engines to see if anyone else was using it; There was an article written by someone in London who travels by bus every morning to work.  His journey takes approximately twenty-seven minutes, so during this time he practices Metta Meditation. This he does by wishing himself peace, happiness and freedom, then goes on to include everyone else on his bus, a perfect example of Metta and inspiration for The Metta Bus.

The Metta Bus is about bringing Core Process Psychotherapy, Mediation Practice and Healing into the heart of rural communities.  The Metta Bus is designed to serve as a therapeutic space on wheels, which means it can pull up on a country lane, the village green or even by the sea!

Confidentiality is particularly important for The Metal Bus it is for this reason that when it is serving as a therapeutic space all reference to its identity will be removed, with exception of the Metal Bus logo on the front of the vehicle. This in itself was an interesting process; magnet strips which can be removed and a wheel cover with a logo etc… that can also be removed when in use.  We felt we needed to advertise The Metta Bus at every opportunity to let everyone know what we are about but needed to find a way to draw attention away from it when it is being used as a psychotherapeutic space, I feel we have now achieved this.

As you can see great care and a lot of creative thinking has gone into the issue of confidentiality for The Metta Bus, to ensure that it is maintained for anyone who wishes to use this service.
